It’s not often we write about high street art galleries here at Cult Collective but this latest release was so exciting, we just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share.
Castle Galleries, the UK’s leading group of high street art galleries, have just released a series of artwork for DC Comics flagship heroes Batman and Superman by legendary comic artist Alex Ross.
Batman: Dark Knight Detective
Castle Galleries are owned by Washington Green who are one of Europe’s largest art publishers. As well as dealing artwork by pop icons such as Ronnie Wood and Bob Dylan, Castle has also moved in dealing artwork based on images from Stan Lee’s Marvel comics by artists such as Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby. All the work they sell are signed, limited editions and original pieces, so when they’re gone, they’re gone. Having very recently signed Alex Ross as an artist, Castle Gallery aim to continue on the success of their comic book inspired artwork run, after a successful launch with the signed Stan Lee’s images last year.
This leads us onto Alex Ross’ series. Born in Portland, Oregon, and raised in Lubbock, Texas, Alex Ross has produced work for pretty much every major comic publisher and is well known for his Marvels and Kingdom Come, both of which were critically acclaimed and firm fan favourites to this day. Renowned for his realistic artistic style, Alex Ross brings a stylised realism to his images, which are often based on the likeness of actors from the golden age of cinema.
Look! Up In The Sky!
Each of the Alex Ross signed limited editions are hand-signed by Alex himself, and come with a certificate of authenticity. With prices starting from £695 framed up, these pieces come in either giclee on paper, or boxed canvas. Castle Galleries are also offering 4 of the pieces, “Descent on Gotham”, “Grim Gargoyles”, “Superman Forever” and “Look! Up in the Sky!”, as part of a giclee portfolio set at £2,750. Like they say, when they are gone, they are gone!
It’s great to see that Castle Galleries have chosen a broad selection of Alex Ross’ different styles for these characters, including his interpretation of Neil Adam’s classic costumer in Batman: Dark Knight Detective.
You really have to see these pieces in person as they are magnificent, the colours and images are so sharp and eye catching. You can check them out at your nearest Castle Galleries and can contact the Meadowhall gallery on – 01142 569777 – for more information.
