Skuzzles Team Up With MGM/ Fox For Horror Re-Issues With Limited Edition Artist Rendered Covers!

Long have we pined for a return to movie posters that were created by the hands of artists rather than marketers with photoshop skills. Skuzzles have helped nudge that process along by teaming up with MGM/ Fox on a series of 13 Blu-ray and DVD re-issues featuring artist rendered covers by some of our favourite artists!

Witness The Ghoulish Poster Art For Upcoming Documentary, “Why Horror”?

Horror flicks are awesome, are they not? Well I think they are and growing up with a healthy dose of them has also meant anything horror related is always worth checking out. So it was quite a surprise when the horror based documentary Why Horror? crossed my path without me having any prior knowledge of it. I must be slipping in my old age. Even more surprising was the amazing art that has come out to promote it.

An interesting premise is followed up by some pretty awesome artwork. Cult Collective regular Gary Pullin has created a superb, 80’s styled poster which covers the whole gambit of horror while getting a bit of the red stuff in for good measure.

Gallery 1988 Announce The Next In Their ‘Ghostbusters’ 30th Anniversay Online Releases, “They’re Here To Save The World” By Joshua Budich

Ever since Gallery 1988 announced back in January that they would be doing a Ghostbusters touring gallery celebrating the movies 30th anniversary, we have been excited to see each and every piece produced for the shows. The tour kicked off in New York on April the 19th before moving to L.A on May the 17th and opens in Chicago this Friday night at Rotofugi, 7pm while 10pm. Tomorrow Gallery 1988 continue with their series of online releases with a piece by Joshua Buddich, easily one of the best of the show.

Joshua Budich, one of the most humble and talented artists to emerge over the past couple of years, has produced this fantastic piece

“They’re Here To Save The World” By Joshua Budich

24×36 Inch Screen Print, 150-200 Approx Online

A little while ago, Joshua was kind enough to take the time to answer a few of our questions on the piece, which impressively comes with full likeness rights by each of the key actors including the sadly departed Harold Ramis.

How did you feel when Gallery 1988 asked you to work on a Ghostbusters piece?

Ghostbusters has always been one of my favorite, and most memorable movie experiences of my childhood. I remember getting the “nod” from my parents, after they had pre-screened Ghostbusters for any questionable content, too racy or frightening for my virgin eyes. Then getting to stay up late to watch it! So, when 88 asked me to participate in this show, I of course jumped at the chance.

Your artwork is applauded and loved by fans for the character likeness and composition, how do you decide what your posters should include?

I knew going into this project that obtaining likeness sign-off from any of the actors I portrayed in the print would be a challenge. So, I had to let the composition dictate who to include, and who unfortunately had to be cut. I do this little exercise every time I create a character-based piece like this. For me, the print has to tell a story. Some parts of the film, although extremely memorable, have to be taken out.

Last year was a great one for you, where would you like this year to take you with your artwork?

Thanks so much! This year, I promised myself more personal projects. Opportunities to take more time with my work, and to reinvigorate my love for the process of creating these pieces.

The print will be released tomorrow, Thursday the 19th of June at 9am PT/ Noon ET at Gallery 1988’s dedicated Ghostbusters 30th website and make sure you follow them on Twitter and Facebook, too!

The number of movies that Joe Dante and Roger Corman have produced is truly remarkable. They are easily the kings of cult cinema, hence the title of the show. In response, Hero Complex Gallery have lined up a rosta of artists that is truly astounding and the level of talent is remarkable. As ever, the work is not limited to posters. Hoang Tran has again masterfully created these amazing Crayola mini sculpts and Geoff Trap another fantastic vinyl toy.

Gallery 1988 Gear Up For ‘Ghostbusters’ 30th Roadshow With New Pieces By Joshua Budich And Anthony Petrie

Ever since Gallery 1988 announced back in January that they would be doing a Ghostbusters touring gallery celebrating the movies 30th anniversary, we have been waiting with baited breath to see what pieces will be produced for the shows. With the tour kicking off in New York on April the 19th before moving to L.A on May the 17th we have now seen two previews by Joshua Buddich and Anthony Petrie accompanying each of the events show cards as well as a comprehensive list of artists who will be contributing either artwork or t-shirt designs for the show.

Joshua Budich, one of the most humble and talented artists to emerge over the past couple of years, has produced this fantastic piece for the L.A gallery which opens May 17th at Gallery 1988’s West location and runs through until June the 1st.

Joshua was kind enough to take the time to answer a few of our questions on the piece, which impressively comes with full likeness rights by each of the key actors including the sadly departed Harold Ramis.

Another fantastic piece created for the New York leg of the show, which opens April 119th and runs until April 26th at 69 Leonard Street, between Church and Broadway, is by Anthony Petrie and features a brilliantly detailed map of New York forming the shape of the ever familiar Proton pack.

Along with these great pieces Gallery 1988 have released a full list of artists and designers taking part in the event which will also visit Chicago between June 20th and 22nd and culminate in a spot at San Diego Comic Con in July.

As well as Joshua Budich and Anthony Petrie, other artists and designers taking part include Scott C, Mike Mitchell, Phantom City Creative, Tom Whalen, Jason Edmiston, Cuyler Smith, Dan Mumford, Gary Pullin , Rich Kelly, Dan Mumford, Godmachine, Bruce White, Chogrin, 100% Soft, Dave Perillo and many many more. We are practically drooling at the prospect of Ghostbusters pieces by any of these artists and wish we could get on over to the States for one of these shows!

Josh Kelly Of J-Monster Art Reveals His Creepy New ‘Alien’ Poster

Horror certainly is a fertile ground for artists to draw inspiration from and based on his most recent piece, Joshua Kelly, aka J-Monster Art certainly seems to have the skill, vision and talent to forge a name for himself among the top tier . At just 20 years old, Perth, Scotland based J-Monster Art takes is  influenced by a love of horror films, heavy music, skateboarding, cartoons, comics, games and tattoos.

Josh has just revealed his latest piece which is a suitable terrifying tribute to Ridley Scott’s definitive horror/ Sci-fi, Alien.

Alien_movie_poster

While not currently available to buy, this piece is a great example of the calibre of work produced by Josh and would look great as a glow in the dark screen print.

We caught up with Josh to find out about what it is about Horror and Monsters that captures his imagination:

As long as I can remember I have been into horror, really. I like the fact there’s not really any boundaries to what horror can be, it really captivates me. Ghoulish Gary Pullin and Matt Ryan are the two main inspirations to my work.  [As for which film I would most like to do a poster for, it] would have to be American Psycho, always a classic. Just one of them films you constantly have to think over. Love it!

You can check out more of Josh Kelly’s J-Monster Art over on his Facebook, Behance and Twitter. This guys is gonna produce some great work, trust me!

Fright Rags Goes Zombie Crazy With Its New ‘Day of the Dead’ T-Shirt Box Set

Recently I covered a selection of awesome T-Shirt sets put out by Fright Rags, a company that specialises in designing detailed horror tees. Well word through the internet grape-vine (or in this case via Daily Dead) is they have done it again with a new set coming soon. This set focuses on the great George Romero flick Dawn of the Dead. These will be limited editions like their other sets. Here is a quote from Fright Rags themselves which explains what is going on.

“These exclusive Day of the Dead items will be available starting promptly at 10:00am EST Friday, January 17 through 10:00am EST Monday, January 27. As soon as the clock strikes 10am EST on Monday, these items will no longer be available for pre-order. Please note that this is Eastern Standard Time, so check your time zone as these times may be earlier or later, depending on where you live.”

They have a promo advert for this set on their website now which breaks down what is involved with the set. Spoiler alert it’s a heck of a lot!

Limited Edition T-Shirt. Full Colour Print by Justin Osbourn. Printed on Super Soft 4.5 oz. Sizes From Small to 3x Large.

Jar of “Deadrock” From Wampum Mines. 11×17 Poster Full Colour Offset Print On 80# Silk Cover Stock.

Prismatic Sticker

Collectors Box. Limited to 500.

The usual array of great items are included in this set (the sticker been a personal favourite of mine reminding me of my childhood days). As a novelty item I love the rocks taken from the actual mines. Personally, I feel it would have been cooler if they had included a different image with the poster (maybe from the original VHS/DVD cover perhaps), but this is a just a personal view and certainly does not take away from the great pieces of work included in the box.

Maybe the reason they did not do this is because it is not only this box set they are releasing. They also have another great print and t-shirt designed by the ever brilliant Ghoulish Gary Pullin coming out focusing on Bub, everyone’s favourite Walkman listening, pistol shooting, humanised zombie. There will also be another t-shirt by Jeff Zornow.
